Top 5x5

Hiya Guildies! I am Eternal Soul aka Trabis’ PvM Ultimate Survivor and this is my first post on the brand new guild forums. I hope many of you participate in this survey I cooked up. Through posts like this I hope to foment an even stronger bond between guild members or at least have something to do during maintenance.
And now on with the show; did you ever try to share your musical preferences with your guild mates? I assure you, typing the lyrics while on Niffleheim won’t do you or your friends any good (just ask Sabel and Saito ^_^). So I decided to do my first guild survey: the Top 5X5. What is the Top 5X5 Eternal? you might ask, and I’ll tell ya just that ^_^. Pick your favorite 5 bands/singers and pick your favorite 5 songs from each and share them with us. One thing I would ask of you would be links to at least the #1 music of each band/singer so we can listen to them. If you have the time and manage to get links to all the songs go ahead. Another thing that would be nice would be some comments to some songs explaining what you like about them.
I would ask of all participating guildies to listen, to at least, the #1 music of each band/singer (make an effort even if you don’t like the musical genre, I know I will [I’m looking at you Hip Hop/Rap/Pop]) and tell what you think of it. Although criticism is accepted do use some restraint, since everybody has the right to have their own musical preferences. Who knows some of us might find bands/musical genres we didn’t knew we liked. Well I hope this post will have more visits than our guild spot at WOE last week lmao.

#5 – Angra
On my Top 5X5 last position comes a newcomer band; well it’s not really a new band it’s just that I found them a month ago. Nothing much to say I guess… Angra is a Brazilian Power Metal band that had the good sense of not singing in Portuguese. This band probably only gets the 5th place because its still fresh to me I guess… most of their songs are way too slow paced for me but there are some good pearls in their repertoire.

#4 – Demons & Wizards
On the fourth position is not a band per se… Demons & Wizards is actually equal to Blind Guardian + Iced Earth, it is a “band” that only has 2 albums but they’re actually 2 really good albums. To tell you guys the truth even the slow paced songs are excellent and some will figure in my Top 5X5 O.O

#4 – Fiddler on the Green - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGMx0YkeTFQ – A very slow paced one, maybe even ballad class… Fiddler’s Green is a sort of legendary afterlife btw.
#3 – Blood on my Hands - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjVR9gfBGy4 – As you can probably tell from the name this song, this one is a lot more fast paced than the other ones. Really good one too.
#2 – Down Where I am - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmVsHVkQblU – Another slow one… there was always a part of this song that spoke to me: “I fear my heart and fear my soul/And all the things that are unknown/There’s a chance things would turn wrong my friend”…
#1 – Tear Down the Wall - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztYSOAcBclk – Not their fastest nor their slowest, but I really like the lyrics on this one ^_^

#3 – Kamelot
Eternal’s Top 5x5 third position was taken by an American band with a Norwegian lead singer, Roy Khan, that actually plays European Style Power Metal. Don’t let the name fool ya, Kamelot’s medieval themed songs can be counted with a single hand (to my dismay), but Roy Khan’s voice is probably one of the best in Power Metal and the non-medieval might actually be a bonus here… I actually put Kamelot in my top because if any of the bands I listen to has the potential to please a female audience… this is it.

#2 – Shadow of Uther - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANpoM-yHPEM – An Arthurian legend song… this is more like it ^_^
#1 – Until Kingdom Come - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Va0t9cj21F4 – Yet another song with a romantic theme… enjoy.

#2 – Blind Guardian
We finally reach the big league! Blind Guardian could be #1 but someone had to be in second place so… Blind Guardian is a German Power Metal whose songs can go from ballad to Speed Metal range. This band must be composed of avid readers; Tolkien, Moorcock, Stephen King and much more book authors find a place in Blind Guardian’s repertoire.

#4 – Punishment Divine - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrzm7C2cdb0 – This song’s ending actually made me cry once; must have been depressed… It is a great song none the less.
#3 – I’m Alive - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9ot4x9jtEs – This is another book influenced song, this time by the Death Gate Cycle
#2 – The Soulforged - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga-q0F7oWnU – This one is based in the Dragonlance Saga… Hmmm I really want to read that now.
#1 – Battlefield - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c98gIxCe1zo – A great battle themed song, just up my alley ^_^

#1 – Rhapsody (of Fire)
And now the big fish, the masters of Symphonic Power Metal, the Hollywood Metal band Rhapsody, or Rhapsody of Fire how it is now know. This is a band composed of mostly Italian members, Luca Turili (guitarist and composer) and Fabio Lione (vocalist and just happens to share my first name, how cool is that ^_^) being the most famous.
Most RoF songs are in English although there are some ballads in Italian (of which only Danza di Fuoco e Ghiacco is worth mentioning) and they do tend to mix a bit of Italian, Latin and even Spanish in some of their songs. RoF songs are also very rich musically; keyboards, violins, female opera voices and much more keeps you on your toes.
The lyrics of their songs tell the story of the kingdom of Algalord and how it always avoids impeding doom. The first albums up to The Dark Secret tell the Emerald Sword Saga, where a chosen hero with the unlikely name of Warrior of Ice (aka Nordic Warrior) must stop the Darklord Akron with the mystical blade of heroes: the Emerald Sword.
From The Dark Secret onwards starts The Dark Secret Saga, where an ancient 5000 year old Demon Knight threatens the peace attained by the noble Warrior of Ice’s sacrifice. To stop him the White Dragon’s Order is formed and most of the focus of the story goes to a former villain Dargor, Shadowlord of the Black Mountain, born half-demon half-man, that will probably have a big role at this saga’s end…

I have to be completely honest... I'm a very selfish person. The main reason I made this topic was because I wanted people to listen to my songs and give me their thoughts about it. With a little luck i could find someone with similar tastes and find new bands to listen to. As u may have noticed my prayers were never answered, probably because my heart was in the wrong place
But now someone as posted a significant post and I thought: "I can't back out now!". And I'm really surprised, since three of the songs Makkita posted are very pleasant and I was able to listen to them from beggining to end. Of course there's a flaw I see in all of the songs; they are all way too slow paced, but that's just the tempo I like don't take it too personally
Let's take the two I don't like out of the way: Soja and Karamelo Santo. It seems rather impossible that I will ever like this kind of bands, sowwy
Well Incubus and Nirvana are very famous bands (even though I don't rly listen to either) and the fact that both songs are played with acoustic guitars makes them a pair of rly nice songs
And now for the surprise of the night; i click on the link and go: "Hmmm Spanish song...don't rly know about that..." but that was undoubtly a hasty judgement, out of the five songs here Eterna Inocencia's vocalist was the one better at conveying emotions into song (in my own oppinion) and the instrumental part was very good too, indead a very pleasant experience. I won't lie and say that I will start listening to these bands but all in all it was a nice experience.
I rly hope more people follow Makkita's example and participate in this topic

Apercebi-me recentemente que algumas pessoas na guild tem alguns problemas em entender inglês, mas infelizmente o meu espanhol é muito mau e eu estaria a fazer figura de urso se tentasse escrever nessa lingua... Mas se eu consigo entender espanhol talvez vocês consigam entender português, se acham que conseguem digam-me e eu farei todos os meus posts em inglês e português de agora em diante.
